Curating Art to Inspire Change

a museum for and by sex workers

Sex work is often misunderstood, misrepresented, stigmatized, and still criminalized in most countries. Labor protections for sex workers are often left out of national and international labor policy, largely because they are not invited to the conversation.

Brooke co-conceptualized and project managed the Sex Workers’ Pop-Up, a temporary art exhibit in New York City that sought to educate everyday New Yorkers and global policy makers on sex workers’ health and labor rights.

The exhibit was designed with activists, and featured artwork and performances that humanized sex workers by creating a space for them to tell their own stories, in their own words.  The team featured the exhibit and key messages in an advertising campaign across New York City’s public transit, and on social media

The pop-up’s story reached roughly 12.4 million readers, including through articles in Reuters, Huffington Post, and the Gothamist.
